United Club Convention was a series of events initiated by the Chemnitz club Atomino with the aim of raising the profile of the local club scene and its history throughout Germany and promoting networking at European level. Concerts, parties, exciting lectures, discussion panels, workshops and other pop-up events with European participation at various locations throughout the city invited people to come together, engage in intergenerational exchange and share experiences throughout the year. Topics such as inclusion, participation and awareness were just a few of the many issues addressed. Above all, the aim was to move away from common clichés of excess and escapism and show the transformative power of club culture and how important it was for a city like Chemnitz. Because even – and especially – outside of major cities, club culture was also culture, and clubs in particular, as physical meeting places and spaces for experimentation, were important for coexistence, cohesion and social exchange.
