The vehicle lift of the historic multi-storey car park will become an exhibition space for a spatial installation of borrowed garage objects. In three collection campaigns, garage users could entrust their borrowed items to the artist and talk to him and the project team in person.
A Trabi tail light, a collection of screws, a calendar from 1993 or the self-made luggage rack of a child's bicycle - garages are veritable stores of spare parts and living archives of material cultural history. Martin Maleschka knows this too. The photographer, artist and architect is committed to promoting the architectural heritage of the GDR. With the support of Chemnitz garage users, he will be realising an art installation in the Museum of Saxon Vehicles. Anything can be artistic and valuable. The items on loan will be documented, catalogued and presented digitally. At the end of the Capital of Culture year, all objects will return to their original garages. The installation will open in October 2024 as a prelude to the #3000Garagen project. All lenders of the objects from the spare parts warehouse will be invited to the exhibition opening.
