Theater der Welt Chemnitz 2026

Germany's largest international festival for contemporary stage art

In a year's time, Chemnitz will become a stage for the world of theatre: from 18 June to 5 July 2026, the Saxon metropolis will host the Theater der Welt Chemnitz 2026 festival, one of the most important international festivals for contemporary performing arts. Theater der Welt Chemnitz 2026 brings perspectives from all over the world to a city in transition. It invites you to discover, experience and empathise - barrier-free, multilingual and in the heart of the public space.

Together with international artists, local initiatives and a curious audience, the Theatre of the World presents Chemnitz 2026:
40 productions | 18 festival days | artists from all continents | dance, theatre, opera, music, concert, performance, clubbing, discourse | for everyone

The festival is jointly organised by Chemnitz Theatre, The Festival Academy Brussels and the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH. The festival takes place every three years in a different German city; in 2026 it will be Chemnitz. Preparations are underway for a festival that crosses borders and connects people.
