Participatory textile work on the diversity of the city

A table is covered with felt crafts, including a tree, a pond, buildings, and a road. Nearby are green yarn, a green sponge, and a tray of baked goods with partially consumed squares. Two small red jars are visible in the corner.

People perceive a city through their daily journeys, through nature and architecture, through memories of other cities or hometowns. Two women, together with many others, bring their perceptions of Chemnitz into a textile form: Sabine Hochmuth, who invites her neighbours to join her in her wool garage, and the Finnish artist Kati Hyyppä, who lives in Berlin. Real and imaginary objects and landscapes made of felt and embroidery will be created in hands-on workshops. They will be sewn together to form a large carpet that shows a bird's eye view of Chemnitz and reflects the diversity of the (Capital of Culture) city.

The project started in September 2024 on the market square in Chemnitz. Locations and dates for the workshops are yet to be published. Would you like to take part? Write a short email to 3000garagen(at)chemnitz2025.de and the project team will get back to you!
