36.000 people celebrated the atmospheric closing of a great Capital of Culture year in Chemnitz on Saturday 28 November, lasting a whole day until late into the night.

After 315 days of programme in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region, the managing directors of Chemnitz 2025, Andrea Pier and Stefan Schmidtke, looked back and thanked the countless people who had worked together to create this unforgettable year. Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer and Chemnitz Mayor Sven Schulze also used the big stage on Brückenstraße that evening to express their thanks to all those who brought the motto of the Capital of Culture year "C the Unseen" to life. Chemnitz 2025 had more than 2 million visitors, guests and participants and offered over 2,000 events in the city and the region from mid-January to the end of November.

The final programme featured a mountain parade and Advent carol singing to mark the start of the Christmas season. In the Maker Advent, an award-winning project of Chemnitz 2025, workshops and studios are still open for creative hands-on activities throughout December.

On 5 December, the two European Capitals of Culture 2025, Chemnitz and Nova Gorica/Gorizia, will hand over the symbolic baton to Oulu 2026 in Finland and Trenčin 2026 in Slovakia. The handover will take place in Nova Gorica, where the Capital of Culture year will also end with a big party.
