The Saxon state government has decided to provide the city of Chemnitz with a further five million euros this year for the preparation and implementation of the European Capital of Culture programme.

This is the result of an initiative by the Saxon State Minister for Culture and Tourism, Barbara Klepsch, based on the advanced stage of programme development by the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH. The increase and the timely provision of funds are intended to ensure the quality and regional impact promised in the application.

Andrea Pier, Commercial Director of Chemnitz 2025 GmbH: "This is a strong signal from Dresden in favour of the major European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 project, the uniqueness of which will have an impact on the Free State of Saxony, the Federal Republic of Germany and Europe. With the additional funds, we can establish planning security at an early stage and thus strengthen the programme for 2025 as a whole. We would like to thank the state government, in particular the Saxon State Minister for Culture and Tourism, Barbara Klepsch, as well as the Saxon State Chancellery, the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport and the Saxon State Ministry for Regional Development."
