Gabriela Oberkofler was born in 1975 in Bolzano/Italy, Hoda Tawakol in 1968 in London/Great Britain. The internationally renowned artists were invited to Limbach-Oberfrohna independently of each other and will now be working together there.
Oberkofler has been working with plants for years and has created a growing seed archive with "Api étoile'". Limbach-Oberfrohna is planning to redevelop the industrial wasteland "Die Aktie", which the artist will green and create gardens on. Before that, there will be a collaboration with the sculptor Hoda Tawakol, who has shown her Egyptian roots in many textile sculptures in the past. With her work "Delicious Monster", planned for Limbach-Oberfrohna, she is embarking on an experiment and a new technique; the sculpture, originally planned in textiles, is to be produced in the Lauchhammer art foundry, which has existed since 1725.
The artist is picking up on a local tradition here, as numerous Lauchhammer iron art cast figures were erected in the park around Wolkenburg Castle. The former owner of the castle, Detlef Carl Graf von Einsiedel, had them cast in the 18th and 19th centuries based on antique models.
together with Chemnitz, 38 municipalities and communities form the cultural region that will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025. The PURPLE PATH, a large sculpture, art and maker trail and flagship of the European Capital of Culture, will be created in the region by 2025 and beyond.
