Even after the Capital of Culture year, the Chemnitz 2025 volunteering programme remained active: this year, volunteers supported, amongst other events, the festival THEATER DER WELT, the Hut Festival, Makers United and the Begehungen art festival. In the first half of 2026, volunteers had already carried out more than 1,200 assignments totalling over 5,200 hours of service. The programme is now being expanded and is once again accepting new applicants with immediate effect. One of the first opportunities to volunteer is at the festival KOSMOS Chemnitz on 29 August around Hartmannplatz – for example, helping with guest services, manning information stands or assisting with set-up.

New volunteers can now register and take on roles at cultural events in Chemnitz. Events seeking support are published on a central platform, where volunteers can sign up.

In the coming weeks, volunteers will be needed, amongst other things, for KOSMOS Chemnitz on 29 August 2026, the PURPLE PATH weekend from 11 to 13 September 2026, and the ‘Light our Vision’ light art festival in Chemnitz from 17 to 19 September 2026. A total of 40 project partners are currently offering opportunities to volunteer at their events.

Over 1,000 volunteers supported Chemnitz 2025: at events, with organisational tasks, at information stands, looking after guests or with logistics. The structures established in this way are to be maintained and will continue to support cultural events in Chemnitz in the future. The volunteer programme is set to continue in 2027 and is thus part of the lasting legacy of Chemnitz 2025. The infrastructure and experience built up during the Capital of Culture year are to be maintained in the long term and continue to enable voluntary involvement in Chemnitz’s cultural life.
