Chemnitz 2025 city selection wins football match against FC Bundestag

Shortly before the start of the European Championships, a Chemnitz 2025 team took on FC Bundestag at Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Berlin on 11 June 2024. Mayor Sven Schulze won the football match for Chemnitz with a penalty kick. In addition to politicians and entrepreneurs from Chemnitz, Chemnitz 2025 programme manager Stefan Schmidtke was also part of the city selection. The game was initiated and organised by Stadtsportbund Chemnitz e.V..

After the successful match, Prof Thomas Popp, the Saxon State Government Commissioner for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, and State Secretary Conrad Clemens invited the team and guests to the Representation of the Free State of Saxony to the Federal Government in Berlin. After this successful start, the Chemnitz 2025 city team has resolved to remain active and to compete in further games with a charity character, said organiser Dr Manuela Sachse, spokesperson for the Chemnitz City Sports Association. Sport is one of the components of the Chemnitz 2025 programme.
