Chemnitz 2025 cultural region honours movers and shakers

For us, everyone is a maker: some cook, others knit, some build houses, others draw plans, some programme, others rebuild their cars, some paint, others sing. Everyone is creative; however, some people don't even recognise themselves as makers, while others no longer believe in the artist within them.

Since 2021, creative people, initiators, creators, craftspeople, naturalists and many other actors have been honoured in the name of the Chemnitz 2025 cultural region. As a somewhat different "certificate", a sign is presented that is intended to make the special work and the people behind it visible. On 8 June 2022, Anja Oberender and Roy Fankhänel, two movers and shakers from the region, were honoured.

These Maker signs are manufactured and printed by WOBEK Design GmbH in Stollberg. A specially developed coating process is used to produce the signs. Behind the company and its ideas is Managing Director Anja Oberender, a maker with heart. Her company specialises in innovative ideas and technologies in the field of individual surface coatings and effect painting.

Another Maker sign will soon adorn the workshop of master guitar maker Roy Fankhänel from Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge. He has been tinkering and tinkering since he was a child. Today, the craftsman builds unique guitars in his small workshop to customer specifications, which are played by major artists such as Die Toten Hosen. The craftsman has always had a special fascination for wood. The fact that he has a lot of creativity in him is demonstrated not least by the fact that he was awarded the Saxon State Prize for Design in 2020.
