The Conference of Culture Ministers has nominated Chemnitz as the European Capital of Culture for 2025. In doing so, it followed the professional vote of the European expert jury. Under the motto "C the Unseen - European Makers of Democracy", Chemnitz has also presented a convincing concept in the opinion of the Conference of Culture Ministers. The ministers expressly thanked the jury for their well-founded work.

Lord Mayor Sven Schulze commented on the decision of the Conference of Culture Ministers: "We are delighted that the Conference of Culture Ministers has now also formally followed the jury's decision and that we can undoubtedly represent Germany as European Capital of Culture 2025. We will be a good host for Europe in 2025 and talk to Europe about how we want to tackle the common, important issues. Preparations for the year 2025 are already in full swing: with the foundation of the GmbH and the broad involvement of the population as early as the application process, we have an excellent basis with which we now want to develop the programme for the entire year 2025. Chemnitz and Europe can look forward to an eventful 2025 and a lot of urban development until then and beyond.

Saxony's Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch commented on the decision: "The city of Chemnitz has submitted a fantastic bid. It has been recommended by the jury as European Capital of Culture 2025. And today this recommendation was formally confirmed by the decision of the Conference of Culture Ministers. That is fantastic. I am particularly pleased for the hundreds of supporters in the city and state, in associations and initiatives, who are now being rewarded for their work. As Minister of Culture, it is now important for me to capitalise on this momentum. As announced, we will support Chemnitz financially and with personnel."
