The Chemnitz Police Department is supporting the Chemnitz 2025 volunteer programme with a series of seminars. An agreement on training volunteers in communication, de-escalation, self-defence, emergency aid and the so-called Everyman's Right was signed today by the Commercial Director of Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, Andrea Pier, and Chief Constable Carsten Kaempf.

More than 100 people of different ages and backgrounds are already involved in the volunteer programme. During the Capital of Culture year, up to 1,000 volunteers will be active for Chemnitz 2025 - primarily as contact persons for visitors. The seminars organised by the police department are an opportunity for the volunteers to prepare themselves for different communication situations and learn how to behave. The agreement initially includes seven half-day training sessions, which will be conducted by trainers from the Chemnitz Police Department. The first seminar will take place on 19 March 2024.

Andrea Pier, Commercial Director of Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH: "In order to make the year as European Capital of Culture 2025 a success, a wide range of cooperation is required at various levels. I am therefore delighted that the Chemnitz Police Department has offered to support the Chemnitz 2025 volunteer programme with a training course. We are experiencing an overwhelming interest from people from Chemnitz and the region to get involved as volunteers for Chemnitz 2025. With the support of the police, we can teach the volunteers the techniques they need to communicate smoothly with the guests."

Police Chief Carsten Kaempf: "The Chemnitz Police Department sees itself as an important and reliable partner for the Capital of Culture with all its events and participants, particularly in the area of security. We are happy to support the training of volunteers with our specialist expertise. The workshops will focus on communication. We also want to give the volunteers practical tips on how they can relax difficult communication situations. At the same time, we will also address legal aspects and the correct behaviour in conflict situations."

Citizens from Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region are active volunteers in the volunteer programme. They support the Chemnitz 2025 team in the realisation of events and projects.
