The Buntmacher*innen are a Chemnitz-based non-profit association that contributes in various ways to a cosmopolitan Chemnitz worth living in with projects such as "Das demokratische Chemnitz liest!" and a curated programme at the KOSMOS festival .

Another creative & sustainable project: the "Kollektüte". The carrier bags are sewn from old and no longer used event banners by Chemnitz cultural institutions. The current collection consists of banners from the opening of the European Capital of Culture year on 18 January 2025. The special feature of these bags are also sewn-in labels with the Capital of Culture logo, each bag is a recycled one-off and the proceeds from the "Kollektüten" are used to support local cultural and democracy projects.

The bags are now available to buy for €20 at the Chemnitz 2025 Visitor and Information Centre in the Hartmannfabrik (Fabrikstraße 11, 09111 Chemnitz).
