Chemnitz 2025 is entering into a programme cooperation with Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Chemnitz West eG (WCW). WCW will be implementing an extensive planting programme in the Kappler Stadtgarten from March 2024. The design for the redesign of the open space was developed by students at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences in a competition. The plans are now being realised by trainees specialising in gardening and landscaping under the direction of the Verband Garten-, Landschaft- und Sportplatzbau Sachsen e.V.

Tenants are also invited to take part in various plant events this autumn. The Chemnitz 2025 main project "Living Neighbourhood" stands for initiatives like these. The WCW will therefore be one of the major cooperation partners in this project.

Last year, the Chemnitz 2025 main project "Living Neighbourhood" was redesigned to include self-initiated planting campaigns organised by various stakeholders throughout the city. The WCW's projects are exemplary for the reorientation of the "Living Neighbourhood" and are supported by Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH.

Further planting activities will be announced in March as part of the main "Living Neighbourhood" project. From 15 to 21 April, an action week will take place with planting, educational activities and various events.

Stefan Schmidtke, Programme Director of Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH: "The commitment of Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Chemnitz West eG is an excellent example of how the Capital of Culture works. Chemnitz 2025 provides impetus, activates and networks various stakeholders who contribute their own initiatives in line with the major programme areas. This will make it possible to design an attractive programme for 2025 and also create structures that will last."

Elvira Gallas, Chairwoman of Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Chemnitz West eG: "We are delighted to be able to give young people space for ideas and design. Our tenants, who will move into the current refurbishment project at Irkutsker Strasse 117 - 123 from May 2024, will then be able to get to know the existing tenants in this new "open-air meeting centre"."

As part of the Living Neighbourhood project, one of the main projects for Chemnitz 2025, Chemnitz residents are encouraged to green their city in neighbourhood initiatives in their immediate living and working environment.
