The EDEKA Group North Bavaria-Saxony-Thuringia is participating in Chemnitz 2025 as a Gold Sponsor. As the largest employer in the region with its administrative branch in Brückenstraße in Chemnitz, the logistics centre in Berbersdorf/Striegistal and the numerous privately run EDEKA stores, the company is providing extensive financial support for the European Capital of Culture year.

The European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 is funded by the federal government, the Free State of Saxony and the city. The overall budget also includes a share of own funds from sponsoring and public third-party funding. This will support the projects realised by Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH as well as many local stakeholders during the European Capital of Culture year. The support of partners from the business world enables the projects to be equipped in such a way that they can develop great appeal and be recognised internationally. With the motto "C The Unseen", Chemnitz 2025 invites you to discover the city and region and be surprised by the diversity of activities, the people and the potential.

Andrea Pier, Commercial Director of Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH: "EDEKA's decision to be a Gold Sponsor is hugely important for Chemnitz 2025. We are delighted that more and more regional and national companies are getting involved in the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. In doing so, they are supporting a unique project and making a long-term investment in shaping a sustainable city and region. EDEKA stores are meeting places and therefore important ambassadors for Chemnitz 2025."

"The last time the city of Essen was European Capital of Culture was in 2010, until a German city was chosen again. This is a rare occurrence, so we are all the more delighted for Chemnitz to win this title and will do our bit to support the city of Chemnitz and local authorities in their cultural activities. With around 750 employees, we are deeply rooted in the Chemnitz region and would like to support this important historical event, which will benefit Chemnitz in the long term," says EDEKA CEO Sebastian Kohrmann .

Toni Kunze, EDEKA's Head of Expansion, who is based in Chemnitz, adds: "EDEKA stands for diversity and fair cooperation. In times like these, we can prove together that Chemnitz and its inhabitants are European and cosmopolitan enough for this award. We also want to give this special year a face with our presence on site and in the media."
