The utility company eins will be the main sponsor of the European Capital of Culture 2025, as announced by both partners at a meeting on 18 September in the immediate vicinity of eins ' colourful chimney in Chemnitz Furth.

"As a regionally rooted company with a long-standing and diverse commitment to Chemnitz and the region, it goes without saying that we want to contribute to bringing the title of European Capital of Culture 2025 to life," says Roland Warner, Chairman of the eins Management Board.

In addition to traditional sponsorship measures and support for special events, eins itself will play a key role in organising and making its own contributions to a successful Capital of Culture year.

The commitment of eins as the main sponsor is manifested in a variety of ways. For example, the infrastructure service provider is providing financial support for the European Capital of Culture projects European Peace Ride, Sports United and the new Sportwochen format. Eins was already a committed partner of the first two events in previous years. Sport, which is part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 programme alongside high, popular and socio-culture, culinary delights and events, promotes togetherness, fairness and team spirit while underlining values that are important to eins.

In addition, "Begehungen" 2025 will take place for the first time as a joint project with Begehungen e.V. on the site of the former HKW Nord II. eins is a cooperation partner and is making part of the site available for the art and culture festival.

"We are also providing budgets for micro-projects in the communities of the cultural region," says Sylvio Krause, deputy chairman of the eins supervisory board. "By supporting numerous smaller initiatives in the region, we also want to focus on the importance of the equally committed towns and communities around Chemnitz," says Krause.

The Esse, the 302-metre-high artwork "7 Colours for a Chimney" designed by Daniel Buren, will be part of the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail, one of the main projects of Chemnitz 2025, as will the light artwork by Hans Peter Kuhn on the eins administration building in Chemnitz city centre, which is still under construction. This will combine highly symbolic industrial culture with outstanding identification features of the region.

The well-known landmark will not only become part of the art and sculpture trail, but will also encourage people in the region to become active themselves. Starting in October, a photo competition by eins will give people the chance to share their own view of the colourful landmark of the Capital of Culture with the people of the region and guests.

Sven Schulze, Lord Mayor of the City of Chemnitz

"The involvement of eins as the main sponsor is a strong commitment to ensuring that Chemnitz and the entire cultural region will present themselves in the best possible light as European Capital of Culture next year. Such a major task can only succeed if the organisers, the city and the partner municipalities, but also the economy and people of the region, work together. eins ' contribution shows how important this cohesion is and how much potential there is in the Capital of Culture idea."

Andrea Pier, Commercial Managing Director of Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH

"The title of European Capital of Culture will have a lasting impact on Chemnitz and the region. Chemnitz 2025 is more than just a major cultural project. We are showing how we want to live together in the future and shape our society together based on fundamental democratic values. The extensive commitment of eins is proof that this project has the backing and support it needs. As one of the largest municipal infrastructure service providers and a major employer, eins emphasises the relevance of the Chemnitz 2025 project and, as the main sponsor, is taking on a central role as an ambassador."
