From 31 January to 18 May 2025, the Chemnitz Industrial Museum invites you to the unique exhibition "John Cage. Museumcircle". Over 100 objects from 52 museums and exhibition spaces in the region have been selected and arranged at random. Between nutcrackers, motorbikes and expressionist art, a space is created for free association about the region's cultural heritage.

The concept of the "Museumcircle" comes from avant-garde artist John Cage (1902-1992). The composer, performance artist and co-founder of the Fluxus movement developed the score for this unusual exhibition idea in 1991: in one museum in a city, exhibits from all the other museums in the city are selected at random.

This idea has been expanded in the Museum of Industry: not only do objects from Chemnitz museums come together here, but also from the 38 municipalities and communities in the Capital of Culture region. The show reflects the art and cultural history of the region, including mining, industrialisation and craftsmanship.

The exhibition is curated by Alexander Ochs, who is also responsible for the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail.
