The Serious Games Maker Days 2024 are history - and what a history! In three days full of creativity and innovation, exciting game ideas, new European networks and unforgettable experiences were created.

It all started with the Serious Games Developer Workshop on 19 and 20 September: 24 creative minds developed seven game ideas in 48 hours, which dealt with topics such as sustainable future design, science transfer and career guidance. The unique atmosphere in the industrial museum inspired the teams to develop innovative concepts, which were further elaborated on the second day during prototyping in the Holzkombinat.

On Thursday evening, the Serious Games Night invited interested parties to immerse themselves in the world of "serious games". In addition to 3-minute challenges to develop new game ideas, there were many aha moments during the quiz. Afterwards, various serious games could be tried out.

The highlight of Friday was the Serious Games Slam. On the stage of Oberdeck Chemnitz, 13 teams gave their all to win the coveted slam trophy. With spectacular performances, glitter and confetti, game ideas and prototypes were presented to the audience, who ultimately chose the team from "Wer sagt's dem Chef" as the winner.

The conference on Saturday provided plenty of inspiration for the future of serious games. Experts such as Markus Utomo, Claudia Haußmann and Stella Schüler discussed topics such as the use of AI and game thinking. Jessika Weber-Sabil from the University of Breda and Josef Rizk from Vienna also vividly demonstrated the possibilities of business games for innovative developments in tourism. Table talks and workshops provided space for intensive dialogue and concrete collaboration.

The 3rd Serious Games Maker Days will take place in the Capital of Culture year from 18 to 20 September 2025 in Chemnitz.

Serious games ensure that playful principles are applied in education, tourism and business. At the same time, they motivate participation, make complex processes understandable and strengthen team spirit. The Serious Games Maker Days are a meeting place for professional game developers to exchange ideas, co-create and discuss current trends.
