Astronaut Matthias Maurer sent us a message from the ISS to Chemnitz and the region just in time for Christmas. In November, he set off on the Cosmic Kiss mission with the Wilhelm nutcracker carved in the cultural region in his hand luggage. The perfect combination of tradition and modernity.
A real maker story: this mission could only be realised thanks to the loving craftsmanship from Seiffen and years of networking with the space scene from Mittweida. As part of the Capital of Culture project "Purple Path", curator Alexander Ochs brought together workshop operator Markus Füchtner and space travel expert Tasillo Römisch - and the result is a piece of Erzgebirge tradition in space.
