2025 is almost within sight - and just as many pennants will be created over the next two years as part of the "2025 Pennants for Chemnitz" campaign. C³ Chemnitzer Veranstaltungszentren GmbH, organiser of the Hat Festival, and Kraftwerk e. V. are the initiators and providers of the idea. In this way, they are bringing the Capital of Culture idea to children and young people and allowing them to help shape a small part of it.
At this year's Chemnitz Hat Festival, pennants were painted and designed for the first time. There were no limits to creativity, and so personal favourite moments, good wishes and cheerful messages can be seen and read on the 500 flags. Over the next two years, a total of 2025 flags will be designed not only in Chemnitz, but also by children and young people in other European countries, such as Nova Gorica, Chemnitz's partner city and cultural capital in Slovenia.
Interested parties, for example from children's and youth centres as well as schools, can request pennants for painting by e-mail. The grown pennant chain will then be hung up again in the city for the next Hat Festival in 2024.
The two Hat Festival events and the Hat Festival on Tour at six locations in the cultural region took place in May 2023 and were successful in the truest sense of the word. A total of more than 65,000 people were enchanted by regional and international street artists and acts with live music, clowning, artistry and juggling over the two weekends.
The Hat Festival is one of the projects for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 programme and Kulturhauptstadt GmbH is supporting the development process of the street art festival.
