To mark the start of this year's Maker Advent, Chemnitz 2025 and Buntspeicher Zwönitz organised a creative Christmas workshop at the weekend.
Over 500 visitors tried their hand at various hands-on stands on Saturday: wooden candles were made, sayings were laser-cut into slate, dozens of flower wreaths were woven, colourful buttons were embroidered, 8 kilos of biscuit dough with Chemnitz motifs were baked, tree ornaments were folded out of paper and sewn from fabric remnants, countless snails were carved, unique tea cups were potted and lanterns were designed with a laser cutter. Interested parties were also able to take a look at the new co-working space in the Makerhub Buntspeicher Zwönitz.
The Maker Advent runs until 30 December 2024. Information on the offers can be found in the brochure - available at the Hartmannfabrik, the Chemnitz Tourist Information at the market or at the Chemnitz-2025-Infopoint at the train station. An overview is also available online at chemnitz2025.de/makeradvent.
At the Maker Advent, workshops, associations, artists and creative people in Chemnitz and the hashtag#Capital of Culture region invite you to work, turn, make lace, print, bake, make hats and sing together.
The Maker Advent is an initiative of the Makers, Business & Arts project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 in cooperation with the Landesverband der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft Sachsen e. V. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament and by federal funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, as well as by funds from the City of Chemnitz.
