3D printing with mushroom mycelium and folded DNA: at the interface between art and technology, the FUNKEN Academy explores the potential of new technologies for society and the art world.
At the FUNKEN Academy, artists come together with high-tech institutes and research facilities to experiment at the interface between art and technology.
At the start of the FUNKEN European Summer Academy, 30 participants met in Chemnitz. Over the next few months, the individual projects will be further developed and then exhibited.
The project of Klub Solitär e.V., Ars Electronica Linz and the WRO Art Center from Wrocław brings together cultural institutions, experienced artists and young creatives to experiment with specific and novel possibilities in working with materials such as metal, DNA and fungi and to expand the possibilities of artistic design and modelling together with the high-tech research partners of the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems and the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology from Chemnitz. At the same time, participants are invited to reflect artistically on the technological processes.
The FUNKEN Academy is one of the projects for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 programme and the Kulturhauptstadt GmbH is supporting the development process of the project.
