Volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 publish reports on their experiences, assignments and adventures around the European Capital of Culture in the volunteer editorial office.
Nicolas lived in Chemnitz until September 2024, when he moved to Austria for work. The 24-year-old continues to volunteer for Chemnitz 2025: whether it's Christopher Street Day in the Salzkammergut, interviews with the press or night shifts at the Hartmannfabrik, Nicolas is always there when he's needed and has a lot to report.
Chemnitz Capital of Culture Office - On 10 April 2024, recreational athletes of all ages came together to cycle or jog as part of the "RunC" project by CreateU, the youth programme of Chemnitz 2025.
The first participants met at around 4 p.m. to get to know their groups and guides for the run or bike tour. There was a choice of three runs (easy, medium and difficult) and two cycle tours. All routes passed five cultural sites where the participants had to complete tasks. It was important that everything was done together. It was about meeting friends, making new acquaintances or simply networking.
The volunteer assignment was organised at short notice and involved looking after the groups. As guides, the cultural locations and tasks were predetermined, but the volunteers developed the route themselves. This allowed a personal component to be incorporated, both in the moderation of the tasks and in the routing.
At around 6.30 pm, the groups gradually returned to the office and there was another opportunity to have a bite to eat and a final chat. Each participant also received a certificate and a photo of their group, which was taken at one of the task points.
The atmosphere was extremely positive and the participants were very happy and satisfied afterwards. It was a great evening and they are hoping for a second edition in the future.
