The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe supports Chemnitz 2025 as an "Official Partner". For 250 years, it has stood for economic and social participation in Germany. With Chemnitz 2025, it shares the goal of making art and culture accessible to everyone. Its commitment is based on a deep and lasting connection to the region.

"I look forward to showing many hundreds of thousands of guests from Germany and around the world what Chemnitz and its region have to offer. The sponsorship of the European Capital of Culture 2025 rounds off the already intensive and multifaceted local commitment of the savings banks. Our cooperation with the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH is one of many building blocks of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe that will contribute to the success of a unique Capital of Culture year," says Dr Michael Kreuzkamp, Chairman of the Board of Management of Sparkasse Chemnitz.

Andrea Pier, Commercial Director of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbh, is enthusiastic about the comprehensive support: "The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, Official Partner of Chemnitz 2025, is an outstanding example of committed action on the part of the business community. Its support of the PURPLE PATH underlines its commitment to Chemnitz and the region, and Sparkasse Chemnitz will be the organiser of the European Capital of Culture Marathon and is supporting local initiatives with 'EUJA! Initiative projects for the Capital of Culture year'."

The PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail, which connects Chemnitz with the 38 partner municipalities in the surrounding area, is at the centre of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe's support. It presents impressive artistic creations that tell of the traditions and stories that characterise the region. Works by renowned international, national and Saxon artists can be seen along the route. This includes the sculpture by Osmar Osten from Chemnitz, which will be inaugurated today, Saturday, 30 November 2024.

"The PURPLE PATH is creating an exhibition in public space that will remain with people and the region beyond 2025," says Ludger Weskamp, Managing President of the East German Savings Banks Association. "We see ourselves as supporters of the region and the people who live there. We want them to participate in cultural experiences. This is the basis of our commitment."

Sven Schulze, Lord Mayor of the City of Chemnitz: "The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe not only supports our city, it also takes responsibility for the people who live here. I am always impressed by the great commitment on the ground. Whether culture, social affairs or sport, research, business or science - it is a reliable sponsor and partner that is very closely linked to our city. I am therefore delighted about this successful, wonderful and wonderful collaboration, also for the European Capital of Culture 2025. The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe is thus making a significant contribution to the development of this region."

Promoting art and culture is at the heart of the social commitment of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, Germany's largest non-governmental cultural sponsor. The support of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 is a joint effort of the Savings Banks Cultural Fund of the German Savings Banks Association, the East German Savings Banks Association and all Saxon savings banks.

"Being European Capital of Culture is an important signal for Germany, for Saxony, for Chemnitz, at a time characterised by upheaval, uncertainty and growing division," says Ulrich Reuter, President of the German Savings Banks Association. "The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe assumes responsibility for shaping society everywhere in Germany. That is why we are committed to projects that connect and inspire people. This commitment to Chemnitz offers a great opportunity for this because we believe that art and culture have an impact on society.

The German Savings Banks and Giro Association (DSGV) is the umbrella organisation of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. This includes 348 savings banks, six Landesbanken groups, DekaBank, five Landesbausparkassen, nine primary insurer groups of the savings banks and numerous other financial services companies.
