Chemnitz is the European Capital of Culture 2025 and the international jury was impressed by the maker:in approach of the application. An approach that is also behind the micro-project funding, which has already made over 60 creative projects by Chemnitz residents possible since the start of the application process. Now another seven projects have been added. They all contributed and continue to contribute to making city life a little more colourful here and there, promoting the community, addressing social issues or trying out new formats.
A total of 21 ideas were submitted during this funding period. The jury of the Chemnitz2025 Programme Council decided on seven projects that will be funded together with Klub 2025, a business initiative to support the application.
The projects to be funded are
Ball wall of the Siegmar e. V. tennis club
The club would like to renovate its dilapidated ball wall and use the opportunity to turn it into an eye-catcher with a Chemnitz motif. The design is being subsidised.
The carpooling bench - a meeting place, mobility and art object
The idea of a carpooling bench is not new and has already been realised several times in Germany and other European countries. Anyone who takes a seat and waits on it is signalling their search for a free ride.
Artist's cube
The mini-showcase gallery aims to display changing works by artists. The aim is to offer creative people a platform for their work, while at the same time inviting passers-by to linger and discover.
Bunte Luise school project
The project aims to encourage pupils to actively help shape their living environment. By renaturalising the area around the school, which also aims to improve the biodiversity of bees and butterflies, ecological sustainability is addressed. An independently planned and implemented student project makes it possible to experience democratic growth and co-determination. And with a gallery or a colourfully designed school wall, in which artists and pupils work together, the colourful school becomes a reality.
Traces - Şopên - ίχνη
An ideas competition aims to creatively explore how the stories of the victims of the NSU can be told and anchored in Chemnitz in order to serve as a warning for the future. It is about artistic interventions in the urban space that promote an examination of the crimes of the NSU and the consequences of racism and right-wing terror and perpetuate the memory of the victims. The ideas competition is organised by the "Open Process" project of ASA-FF e.V.
PinG-PonG
It's about comics. A four-part three-day comic workshop is planned at Weltecho, comparable to the beginning of a pen pal relationship. The aim is to create a lively relationship between cartoonists from Chemnitz and France, which will ultimately lead to an exhibition: at the Borssenanger Gallery in Chemnitz and at MOTOCO in Mulhouse.
Woman for woman
Women from the arts and culture of the past centuries move into the spotlight, including those who, as the (married) wives of "great" famous Chemnitz men, made the men's success possible in the first place. The result is a photo series that places today's women in a historical context.
