Special event: Frankfurt Book Fair 2023 as a guest in Chemnitz

On Thursday, 19 October 2023, the Frankfurt Book Fair will be visiting Chemnitz: the American-Slovenian author Erica Johnson Debeljak will be presenting her novel "Verliebt, verheiratet, verwitwet, verhurt" at the city library at 19:00.

Slovenia is this year's Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Erica Johnson Debeljak is one of the authors with whom the country will be presenting itself at the fair next week. in 2025, the Slovenian city of Nova Gorica and the Italian city of Gorizia will be Chemnitz's European partner cities of culture. Erica Johnson Debeljak's memoir about a sudden death, the grief surrounding it and the resulting female self-determination became a bestseller in Slovenia. in 2021, the novel was named Book of the Year at the Ljubljana Book Fair. The author was born in San Francisco, California, in 1961 and moved to Slovenia in 1993 to marry the poet Aleš Debeljak. her literary debut was published in 1999. She lives in Lubljana.

Erica Johnson Debeljak presents her book in an interview with the Slovenian journalist Dražen Dragojević. Actress Alida Bohnen from the Chemnitz Theatre ensemble will read from the German translation of the novel, which was published this year by Verlagshaus Römerweg.

The event is a cooperation between the European partner cultural capitals Nova Gorica in Slovenia, Gorizia in Italy and the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 in collaboration with Chemnitz City Library.
