SPORTS UNITED - Sport connects people

Chemnitz is not only the European Capital of Culture 2025, but also a city of sport. This is proven not only by our top-class basketball teams, but also by many enthusiastic recreational athletes.

We want to clearly demonstrate this with SPORTS UNITED, which will celebrate its premiere on 4 September in conjunction with the European Peace Ride 2022. The event aims to connect all Chemnitz residents with a love of sport and exercise. However, the focus is by no means on performance, but rather on the valuable sense of community, which on the one hand invites people to interact with other people and on the other hand is able to overcome social divides.

After individual circuits of ten different sports, from running, hiking, cycling, wheelchair running to inline skating, in and around Chemnitz, all recreational athletes meet together in the city centre. The common goal: Brückenstraße in front of the Karl Marx Monument.

At a joint after-show party, with live music from Gruppa Karl-Marx-Stadt and Drens, the DJ team Heckhorn and the Clovers, the cheerleaders of NINERS Chemnitz e. V., everyone can talk about the routes they have mastered, in line with the motto "Sport connects people".

The stage programme starts at 12 noon. Some sports also start their circuits directly from Brückenstraße, including the MTB bike tour and inline skating. The finishes will take place from 2.30 pm and will culminate with the cyclists of the "European Peace Ride" crossing the finish line at around 5 pm.
