The city of Chemnitz receives 25 million euros each from the federal and state governments to support the European Capital of Culture 2025 project

The city of Chemnitz has received 25 million euros each from the federal and state governments to support the European Capital of Culture 2025 project, news that was met with great joy by the city today.

Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "I am very grateful for the pledges of financial support from the federal and state governments, especially as the funding exceeds the expected amount. This not only creates the all-important security in the planning of the Capital of Culture project. For me, it is a sign of recognition and confidence in the work here in Chemnitz."
Mayor of Culture Ralph Burghart is also delighted with this support: "I am sure that the funds from the federal government and the Free State will trigger further messages of support and contributions from partners, so that the Capital of Culture programme can be implemented as planned with great appeal for Europe. I would like to thank everyone at federal and state level for their support, especially of course the team led by Ferenc Csák, our project manager."
Ferenc Csák, Project Manager of the Capital of Culture application and Head of the Department of Culture: "My team and I were delighted with this news. This message gives us new energy for the big tasks ahead of us. The promise of financial support from the Free State of Saxony is the result of good preparatory work in recent years together with the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism and the Saxon State Chancellery. I can say the same about the preparations for funding from the federal government. Minister of State Monika Grütters has listened to the requests of the five German applicant cities and recognised how important it is that the federal government's support is not only necessary in the Capital of Culture year 2025, but also in the preparatory years from 2021 to 2024. The upcoming Capital of Culture GmbH now not only has the task of managing, but also increasing the budget that has been given to it. A solid basis has now been created for this. In this context, for example, the projects with the region and in the cross-border area with the Czech Republic and Poland are of particular interest."
