Julia has lived in Chemnitz since 2012 and has been part of the volunteer programme since February 2025 in order to make new contacts. In the process, she has met many different people - her interest in art and culture has been rekindled.

A workshop with Julia? An article by Julia too? Yes, exactly! After taking part in such inspiring volunteers-for-volunteers workshops over the course of the year, I really wanted to lead one. In consultation with the volunteer team, we decided to make Christmas decorations using old flyers and brochures from the Capital of Culture year.

I arrived a little late as it had started snowing that day - the perfect mood for Christmas decorations. To my astonishment, the room was well filled with visitors. I hadn't expected so much interest.

With Christmas music and snacks, we all got to work. And as always, when the mood is right, time flew by. From time to time, curious people peeked into the room, which was full of cheer. And hey, we managed to fill a whole box with poinsettias, which were then donated to Open Space.

Many thanks to everyone involved. I hope you had as good a time crafting as I did.
