Archaeology of things

In 2025, the Chemnitz puppet theatre turns a garage into a protagonist: based on interviews and research, a play is being created that tells the stories of garage wives, daughters and granddaughters. With puppet theatre, live music and the Wunderbox "Garage", a garage summer night becomes a special experience.

Location

There are around 30,000 garages in Chemnitz, which still bear witness to the personal memories and lives of many Chemnitz residents. In 2025, Figurentheater Chemnitz turns a garage into both a protagonist and a venue: based on biographical-documentary research and interviews, including with garage women, garage daughters and garage granddaughters, a text unfolds from history and stories, which director Julia Brettschneider stages with the "garage" wonder box, the aesthetic means of puppet theatre and live music. Together with the audience, we immerse ourselves in the life and experiences of a garage and celebrate them in a joint Garage Summer Night. Accompanying formats complement the first open-air performances, expand the question of what is missing and invite people to listen and exchange ideas together.
