Fears of all kinds are omnipresent. As part of the Pavilion of Fear project, Prof Dr Udo Rudolph and Dr Stefan Uhlig from Chemnitz University of Technology asked a large number of Chemnitz citizens what fears they feel and how they influence their everyday lives. In this lecture, they will present the results of their survey and provide an insight into the topic of "fear" and "anxiety" from a psychological perspective - it is clear that, on the one hand, fears have a positive function; on the other hand, we also experience them as oppressive and restrictive when they are felt intensely. They provide an insight into the worries, fears and future prospects expressed by Chemnitz citizens and how these can be countered.
