The popular motif of "Garden Street Early in the Morning" by the artist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff is at the centre of today's reading. The artist, who was born in 1884, spent his childhood and youth here. However, the actual house where he was born burnt down. Schmidt-Rottluff's father rebuilt the present-day mill, which has recently been incorporated into the overall concept of the art collections of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz as the "Karl Schmidt-Rottluff House" museum site following renovation, in 1893/1894. From the book "Gartenstraße frühmorgens um 1906", which was published by the Kulturstiftung der Länder in 2017, is part of the reading, for which the CLAXE is a guest in cooperation with the house.
