DECONFINING - dissolving borders, opening up spaces, questioning privileges. For four years, this leitmotif shaped the artistic exchange between twelve European organisations and their African partners - between Burkina Faso and Lithuania, Croatia and Tunisia, Poland and Zambia, Germany and Tanzania, Austria and Togo, Slovenia and Senegal, Norway and Mali, Spain and Uganda, Belgium and Morocco. The cooperation within the framework of DECONFINING ARTS, CULTURE, AND POLITICS IN EUROPE AND AFRICA has resulted in a dense network with various cross-connections to each other and to other cultural organisations and artists in the countries of Europe and Africa.

Their common goal is to overcome paternalistic and colonial perspectives, strengthen participatory approaches and create better access to information for intercontinental mobility and transnational cooperation.

How can artistic exchange across continents succeed - and what conditions are needed for this? What kind of interweaving between art and politics strengthens us to be able to break new ground? This conference will deal with these questions, the studies produced in the project and the cultural policy insights gained from them. It marks the conclusion of the Creative Europe project DECONFINING ARTS, CULTURE, AND POLICIES IN EUROPE AND AFRICA.

All conference events will be held in English. Whispered translation into German will be provided.
Registration deadline: 15.06.2026. The full programmehere.
