Don Giovanni, the tragic hero of this opera, is the epitome of an irresistible seducer who rushes carefree from one conquest to the next, stopping at nothing. As quickly as he falls for a woman, he loses all interest in her. Has he ever been in love? Who knows. But do the women fixated on him really love him? Or is he not rather a mirror and projection screen for their own needs? They make it all too easy for the charismatic womaniser, but turn into true erinyes when they realise that they cannot possess him forever.

Mozart's "Don Giovanni" is probably the pinnacle of his musical-theatrical oeuvre, and the libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte is one of the most successful in all of opera literature. A classical sense of form, compositional mastery and an intensity of expression that seems to anticipate Romanticism are fused together to perfection in this score.

Opera in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte after "Don Giovanni Tenorio ossia Il convitato di pietra" by Giuseppe Gazzaniga and Giovanni Bertati.
