Chemnitz artist Jean Schmiedel is one of the most unconventional representatives of the city's art scene. In his works, which are characterised by dark tones and above all the colour black, he deals intensively with masks. Since 2009, when he began working with charcoal drawings, his painting has become lighter overall, but his exploration of mask-like elements remains a central theme. The Kunstverein Glauchau is delighted to be able to present the works of this extraordinary artist in an exhibition.
The PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail permanently presents contemporary sculptures in public spaces and tells stories from Chemnitz and 38 communities in the region. Works by more than 60 artists are on display.
This project is cofinanced by tax funds on the basis of the parliamentary budget of the state of Saxony and by federal funds from the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media), as well as funds from the City of Chemnitz.
