In 12th-century Japan, an obscure crime takes place. The samurai Takehiro is walking through the forest of demons with his beautiful young wife Masako. Both are attacked by the bandit Tajomaru, who ties up the samurai, who has to watch as the bandit has his way with Masako. The samurai is then stabbed to death. At least, that is the general story, but there are doubts about the course of events. This leads to a court hearing. Will it shed light on the mystery?
