In recent years, hundreds of apple trees have been planted in the Hilbersdorf apple park using old, hardy local varieties. Several neighbours were involved. The planting and maintenance partners include organisations as diverse as BUND, the Chemnitz School Model, the Dschoy company and NABU. Reiner Amme explains how the trees grow and thrive and reports on the special features of the varieties.

Weatherproof clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended.

The heimaten network is an initiative of the House of World Cultures as part of the heimaten programme, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media on the basis of a decision by the German Bundestag.
