Garden and landscape architect Andrea Alter greened the forecourt of the Kulturkaufhaus in 2024 and 2025. At this piece of urban nature, a representative of urban culture and the head of the Gelebte Nachbarschaft programme get to the bottom of the question of what greening has to do with culture.

LIVING NEIGHBOURHOOD

GELEBTE NACHBARSCHAFT is a main project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, focussing on sustainability and a green city. Joint planting campaigns bring neighbourhoods in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region closer together. The participatory project is flanked by suitable educational programmes and artistic activities.
