Garden and landscape architect Andrea Alter greened the forecourt of the Kulturkaufhaus in 2024 and 2025. In conversation with Ferenc Csák, Head of the Department of Cultural Affairs, both explain what motivated the redesign, how ideas for it matured and what green developments can be expected in Chemnitz. GELEBTE NACHBARSCHAFT is a main project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, focussing on sustainability and a green city. Joint planting campaigns bring neighbourhoods in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region closer together. The participatory project is flanked by suitable educational programmes and artistic activities.
