“Gemeinsam zu Tisch” is a regular get-together that brings together people from different backgrounds, generations and walks of life. The focus is not only on sharing a meal, but above all on people meeting one another, exchanging ideas and feeling welcome.
Participants go shopping together, prepare the meals together and then spend time eating together. These simple, everyday activities create a special atmosphere in which conversations flow, new connections are made and people can get to know one another.
The programme offers newly arrived migrants and refugees, in particular, an important opportunity to network with others, find support and settle into their new surroundings more easily. At the same time, all participants benefit from the mutual exchange and learn about different perspectives, cultures and life stories.
Strengthening social relationships is a key part of the project. Many people, particularly young participants, experience loneliness and insecurity due to being far from their families, a lack of social contacts or new life circumstances. At ‘Gemeinsam zu Tisch’, they find an open space where trust can develop and where they can meet people with whom they can share experiences and offer mutual support.
Through the connections formed, many participants gain greater self-confidence and motivation to actively shape their future. They discuss training, work and personal goals, and receive support on their journey towards social inclusion.
"Gemeinsam zu Tisch" creates moments of joy and togetherness. Cooking, eating and laughing together brings people closer, breaks down prejudices and strengthens social cohesion in the neighbourhood.
The regular attendance of an average of around 20 people – and sometimes more – demonstrates the great importance of this initiative. It is therefore vital that ‘Gemeinsam zu Tisch’ continues so that it can keep providing an open space for meeting others, receiving support and fostering a sense of community.
