Europe's policy of open borders makes us all neighbours. As part of the NONSTOP Europe! festival from 1 to 3 May 2025, Chemnitz Theatre will be exploring what this means for our democratic values such as respect and tolerance with guest productions from the neighbouring countries of the Czech Republic and Poland. The German Theatre from Almaty (Kazakhstan), which has made a name for itself with its experimental and modern productions and opens up exciting perspectives, will also be a guest in the Capital of Culture year. The festival will be complemented by a varied supporting programme and the transnational drama school meeting.

BUŘTY V MEDU
A performance between pantomime, beatboxing and linguistic grotesque

With Buřty v medu (Sausages in Honey), two mimes have created a performance somewhere between mime, stand-up, beatboxing and poetry slam. Everything combines to create an energetic show with quiet nuances.

A story about freedom and other little things by Karin Eppler
Banana Jane lives in a zoo - and she is a female orangutan. But something has been strange lately, the animals are behaving differently. Then Jane finds out about the animals' plan to break out of the zoo together. Freedom for all, at last. But who is the mysterious mastermind behind the movement? Can you trust someone on such a big issue if you don't even know them? Jane is faced with an important decision - but then the day of liberation comes sooner than she thought.

Play in two parts by Ulrich Plenzdorf
Based on Goethe's epistolary novel, Plenzdorf tells a story about love and longing - positioned in the GDR of the 1970s. In search of his place in this world, Edgar finds love and rejection, wants to prove himself and fails himself. All the while, he is accompanied by an old Reclam notebook. What this Werther writes in it - Edgar understands it better from day to day.
