The exciting story of love and separation, the struggle between emotion and duty, personal and public, the conflict between traditions and new endeavours - the immortal plot of "Romeo and Juliet" finds its counterpart in Karagos by Mukhtar Auesov.
The classic of Kazakh literature finds a new sound in German - while retaining the beauty, pain and depth of the original text. With elements of dance theatre, an evening has been created that gives the classic work a new volume. In a synthesis of poetic words and choreographic action, the Deutsches Theater has not only created a deeply moving evening, but has also brilliantly mastered the balancing act between tradition and modernity.
Karagos is a joint project of the State German Theatre in Almaty and the Goethe Institute Kazakhstan. The production is the result of a creative collaboration between the well-known Kazakh theatre director Natascha Dubs and the famous European choreographer, dancer and director Florian Bilbao.
The production, which will now be shown as a one-off at NONSTOP EUROPA!, has already enjoyed great success, not only with Kazakh audiences but also with European audiences: the play has performed in Berlin, Vienna, Brussels, Moscow and Paris - to sell-out audiences everywhere.
