Saxony - in particular the region between Chemnitz and Zwickau - was once a centre of the European textile industry. The artist Ulrich Reimkasten, who grew up in Lichtenstein/Saxony, learnt the basics of textile design here - an influence that runs through his entire work as a visual artist.  An expansive installation and a complementary cabinet exhibition with more than 60 works and exponates combine his origins and life's work in a new way .

Romy Brock (head of regional managemen) and Alexander Ochs (curator PURPLE PATH) will give words of welcome.

The laudatoory speech is held by Dr. Eckart Gillen (art historian and curator from Berlin). His focus lies within fine artes of East-Europe especially East-Germany after World War II.

On the occasion of Women's Day prior to the Vernissage Ulrich Reimkasten will honor women who wove, knitted and created in many factories around the city and its region. Therefore, at 3pm a weavers-get-together takes place.

Invited are all women who have worked or still work in textile businesses. There will be tea, coffee or prosecco and easy-going chatter.

It's Moving

It's time to get out of the city - to the 38 partner municipalities of the Capital of Culture Chemnitz. Into a cultural region that is rediscovering its own tradition and history in a moving exchange and focusing on its themes. In motion! opens up new encounters in projects along the Purple Path, the art and sculpture trail that is currently being created, and initiates joint negotiations on the future of the region.
