The Chemnitz Viaduct is a listed railway bridge built in 1901-09 on the Dresden-Werdau railway line.

The Viaduct Celebration will take place on Saturday with an exhibition, music programme, offers from clubs and initiatives, sports and hands-on activities for young and old as well as catering. It is also the City of Chemnitz's kick-off event for Open Monument Day. On Sunday, the Viadukt e. V. will be presenting an exhibition on civic engagement around the Chemnitz viaduct and the railway arch. The programme will be complemented by guided tours of the viaduct.

 

Programme:

13.9.2025 - Viaduct  Celebration

  • 3.30 p.m.: Welcome address by Thomas Kütter, Mayor of the City of Chemnitz, on Open Monument Day
  • Followed by presentation of various associations and initiatives
  • Children's and hands-on programme (children's association, model railway club, petanque/boules, table tennis...)
  • Exhibition of the Viadukt e.V.
  • Catering: Superheldenburger and Munzer Brewery
  • 19:00: Concert by the rock band Little Gipsy

14.9.2025 - Day of the open monument

  • hourly guided tours of the viaduct from 10:00 to 14:00
  • Exhibition on the fight for preservation
  • Live music from the Chemnitz brass band
  • Drinks and bratwurst
