Workshop series: Straw into gold, an upcycling project

In upcycling workshops in a garage at Kulturhaus Arthur, interested people work together with women in prison at Chemnitz Prison to rework, paint and print or decorate broken, discarded clothing in the spirit of Visible Mending.

STRAW INTO GOLD  is a textile upcycling club founded by incarcerated and non-incarcerated women. In this series of workshops at Chemnitz Prison and in a garage on the grounds of Kulturhaus Arthur, they work on broken, discarded clothing, paint and print on it or decorate it in the spirit of visible mending. Everyone is invited to take part. In a parallel exhibition at Kulturhaus Arthur, documentary photos taken by inmates at Chemnitz Prison give an impression of creative and artistic processes within the prison walls.

The upcycling workshops will take place from 14 to 16 August. On 14 and 15 August from 15:30 - 19:30, on 16 August from 12:00 - 15:30. The accompanying exhibition "Straw to Gold" will take place from 14 August to 14 September.
