Conference “40 Years of European Capitals of Culture” in Chemnitz

The two European Capitals of Culture 2025 Chemnitz and Nova Gorica/Gorizia invite you to a conference of the same name at the Carlowitz Congress Center Chemnitz on Friday, April 4 to mark the anniversary of “40 Years of European Capitals of Culture”. The focus will be on the presentation of the white paper “40 recommendations from 40 years of ECoC*: Insights for the European Capitals of Culture from 2034”. It is intended to form the basis for a new legal foundation for the European Capitals of Culture.
 
200 participants from various European countries are expected to attend, including representatives  from around 50 European Capitals of Culture, delegates from the European Parliament, the European Council, the European Commission and the federal and state governments. The  conference language will be English. 

The results of the meeting will be presented at a press conference on Friday, April 4, 12:30 pm,  in the Carlowitz Hall of the Carlowitz Congress Center Chemnitz. Please note: The press  conference will be held in English.

The supporting program begins on Thursday, 3 April at 7 p.m. with a reception by Lord Mayor Sven Schulze in the Hartmannfabrik.
On Friday, April 4, panels and working groups are planned from 9 am in the Carlowitz Congress Center. The day will end with a celebratory event to mark “40 years of ECoC” in the Wirkbau. This event is not open to the public.
On Saturday, April 5, guests can get to know projects of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, including the intervention areas Garage Campus and City by the River. Other ongoing European Capital of Culture projects are also part of the program.

Participation in the conference
The conference is aimed at a specialist audience. A limited number of places are available for interested citizens for the conference day on April 4. Registration is possible until March 27 via th citizen participation portal. The participation fee is 60 euros and includes catering.
Media representatives have the opportunity to obtain accreditation for the conference via the City of Chemnitz press office at pressestelle@stadt-chemnitz.de by March 27.
