Burgstädt is a small town with 10,400 inhabitants in the district of Central Saxony with a history stretching back over 600 years. The town centre with its narrow alleyways, the Brühl, the late baroque town hall and the pretty town houses around the market square invite you to stroll and linger. The market square is characterised by the view of an ensemble of three different towers, the Seigerturm and the towers of the town church, which is over 500 years old. The town's landmark is the Taurastein Tower, which can be seen from afar. The first wooden observation tower on the legendary Taurastein was put into operation back in 1889. In 1913, the 39 metre high water and observation tower was erected on the same site, the upper floor of which is now home to the "galerie | im | turm", which presents exhibitions of wooden art, paintings and graphics. The tower is surrounded by an extensive park: the Wettinhain with ponds, fountains, an adventure playground and an open-air theatre.
Burgstädt's scenic location between the idyllic valleys of the Zwickauer Mulde and Chemnitz rivers attracts hiking enthusiasts in particular. The excursion destinations Höllmühle and Rochsburg Castle are within easy reach and the Brauselochbach Valley and the Mulde Valley with their diverse fauna and flora are of particular recreational value for locals and visitors alike.
