The municipality of Callenberg is located in the centre of the Zwickau district. The approximately 4,800 inhabitants are spread across the seven districts of Callenberg, Falken, Grumbach, Langenberg, Langenchursdorf, Meinsdorf and Reichenbach. All of the districts have a long and independent history dating back to the 12th or 13th century. in 1999, they were merged to form the municipality of Callenberg. The long history is reflected in the rural town centres with some representative historical buildings, some public, some private, such as the former town hall, the Zur alten Schule restaurant with village and school museum and the church as well as the privately built Renaissance-style wedding chapel in the Callenberg district or the "Langenchursdorf Mill", which now houses a technical museum. The village is also adorned with a large number of old four-sided farmhouses.
Anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in the countryside will find what they are looking for in Callenberg. A well-developed network of cycling and hiking trails makes for a wonderful active holiday. In particular, a hike to the "Langenberger Höhe", the highest point in the municipality, is rewarded with a phenomenal view as far as the Leipzig lowlands. The holiday experience is rounded off with a visit to the local recreation area "Stausee Oberwald": on the site of a former open-cast mine, where Europe's largest nickel ore deposit was once mined and transported to the St. Egidien nickel smelter for processing, a bathing lake with a 360-metre beach, water slide and boat hire was created after the excavation in the 1970s.

The bronze sculpture group Include Me Out by Friedrich Kunath in Buntsockenpark Thalheim comprises seven stylised spruces. The installation, located in the former stocking factory area, humorously reflects our position in the world and current environmental problems. Friedrich Kunath was born in 1974 in Karl-Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz, and now lives in Pasadena, USA.
