For the first time in Germany, Kaßberg Prison illuminates the ransom of the Germans of Romania minority during the Ceaușescu dictatorship in an exhibition using contemporary witnesses. The exhibition poses questions about the ethical dimension of ransom as well as its significance in German and European history. The main focus is on the personal testimony of contemporary witnesses who acquired freedom through ransom. To convey this complex history and the many biographies connected to it in a contemporary manner, Kaßberg Prison has had a diverse program of courses, workshops, artistic actions, exhibitions, and tours in store since 2023.
