VNG AG

Sponsor for Chemnitz 2025

VNG is a group of companies active throughout Europe with over 20 companies and around 1,700 employees. Headquartered in Leipzig, the Group is a gas importer and wholesaler as well as an operator of critical gas infrastructure, ensuring a secure supply of gas in Germany. With its "VNG 2030+" strategy, VNG is also following an ambitious path for a market ramp-up of renewable and decarbonised gases such as biogas and hydrogen, thus paving the way for a sustainable, secure and, in the long term, climate-neutral energy system. VNG's investments in infrastructure and future projects are primarily being made in central and eastern Germany, with the aim of making a significant contribution to structural change as a regionally anchored company.

Ulf Heitmüller, Chairman of the Executive Board at VNG AG:

"As an East German energy company that has been firmly rooted in Saxony and beyond for more than 65 years, we are delighted to support Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture 2025. Hosting the most important European cultural project is a unique opportunity for Chemnitz to present itself as an innovative, liveable and culturally diverse location in transition.

This fits in very well with VNG. As a company in the midst of a significant transformation towards renewable energies, we not only want to actively shape and promote the energy transition, but also the structural change in central and eastern Germany. In this respect, we are delighted that the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 is an excellent platform and at the same time a symbol of structural change in the region."
